Experimentation 1

IMG_1141.jpg

In this experimentation we had to make, at first straight lines, up and down using our body movement. To make this lines we needed concentration to get it right and straight. Then we had to make continuous circles, using again our body movement. It is interesting to see the movement each person made to reach the objective, and by this, the results each. person got by experimenting with their body movement.

IMG_1200.jpg

This experimentation consisted in making a stencil out of an image we selected. I selected a reindeer as a base image, we pasted the image in a cardboard and cutted the image to make the stencil. Then we will place it in a paper and spray paint over it and the image was created.

Experimentation 3

IMG_1251.jpg

This was our first 3D experimentation, where we experimented with the objective of: The object uses and transformation. At the beginning we needed to collect some objects we consider necessary or that had something in common. Then we pasted the objects together to make a new art piece. There were several conceptions of the meaning of the artwork. One of them was how we try to protect all of our electronic devices. Another meaning was how we all transform into "cones" by using all of the electronic devices.

Experimentation 3

In this experimentation we had to draw the movement of the person recording us at the other side of the window. The person recording needed to move and the other person needs to keep drawing the silhouette of the person moving. The result would be a kind of stop motion in which you can see the movement that the person made and how he made it.

"The Wallet"

The following exercise consisted in taking your wallet (a very personal thing) and following several steps which will reflect on the persons link of elements with memories

IMG_1775.jpg

Step one consisted in laying all the objects of the wallet on a table or flat surface, placing them and letting the objects find their own space in the surface, so there will be no overlapping objects.

IMG_1776.jpg

The second step consisted in taking out all the objects that didn't cause any kind of emotion or you didn't even know why they were left. I was left with the following objects.

This step consisted in organizing the objects in different categories that I want. I chose: Identity, Yale, Family and Fun Memories.

IMG_1779.jpg
IMG_1780.jpg

Then we chose a category, the one that had more memories or more impact in ourselves, I chose the Yale cetegory, which is the most recent one and also one that I feel a very strong link.

One of the two objects were chosen. I chose the SD card, as it has all the photos from that trip and all the memories, I always carry it with me just to remind me of those really good times. I needed to photograph the object and analyze it very well

IMG_1816.JPG
IMG_1794.JPG

Now a drawing of the piece was supposed to be made, taking into account the shades, shapes, scratches and everything that the object had

Finally a black out poem was made; by taking a news paper and taking out words, paragraphs or phrases. This poem must be for the object, for the memories the object causes. My poem goes like this;

Condenados a Vivir

Finding the Object

The following excercie consisted in realizing how several objects in our house are related to really strong memories we have of several things.

IMG_1864.jpg

The first step consist in selecting several objects around the house that are really important and have a really strong memory behind it. These objects shouldn't be massed produced in the best case. After selecting them a category was assigned to the different groups

IMG_1868.jpg

The second step consisted in selecting only one object per each category. This object should be really important to us.

Now, an abstract concept was selected for each object. An abstract concept is an idea that people can understand in several ways and has no physical representation.

IMG_1866.jpg
IMG_1871.jpg

Now we select only one object. The one that has the most meaning and a strong story behind it. For me it is this paper that I was given when one of the most important teachers I've had died. Helena Sedano was my English teacher in 5th grade and marked my life. This is why I have kept this for a really long time.

I Remember...

We take once again the object we got from last time and its story: For me it is this paper that I was given when one of the most important teachers I've had died. Helena Sedano was my English teacher in 5th grade and marked my life. This is why I have kept this for a really long time. There is always a teacher that mark us in our school life, for me this teacher was Helena.

IMG_1871.jpg
IMG_1889.jpg

Now the object is taken and place with other objects that are related to the story, place, or persons involved. An abstract concept is placed to each object (black) and other concepts connect the objects in a logical way to the story (blue)

An I remember text is made. This consists in writing sentences continuously for 5 minutes straight. The sentences must start with I remember to trigger the unconcious memory. Everything is written although it might be a lie and not taking into account the grammar or spelling mistakes, in order ro make the exercise fluid.. After this several parts are deleted for personal motives, nevertheless the important parts are kept, these parts are related to several parts of the story. These are the words and phrases that remain.

IMG_1892.jpg
IMG_1893.jpg

Using the last exercise, the mind map is completed, making more relations between the objects found. Now the mind map has lots of concepts that can be used later to make the persons connect with the art work and the object.

Black Out Poem

For this exercise we had to make a new black out poem having in mind our main object, for me it was the order of the day for the mass made for Helena. In this case for the blackout poem I took a page of the book The Misterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, which I lend to H a few years ago. The poem has a picture of an apple symbolizing the teacherhood and specially Helena. And the words circled are the ones that make the poem, having together a lot o meaning for me.

Transformation

IMG_2303.jpg

For this exercise I still have the same object as before (order of the day for the mass of Helena) and in this part I needed to draw the object. I keep in mind all the elements. it has.

Now, I had to draw the object once again but this time completely from memory, resulting in some spaces left in blank and only some meaningful things stand out.

IMG_2304.jpg
IMG_2305.jpg

Only the silhouette can be seen, and all the negative space is now in black, making the silhouette stand out even more.

IMG_2308.jpg
IMG_2312.JPG
IMG_2310_edited.jpg
IMG_2311_edited.jpg
IMG_2309_edited.jpg

Now I experimented with photography to detail specifically the object.

IMG_2306.jpg

A picture on the news paper was selected, this is bunch of doctors in the current situation, nevertheless it applies to my object because the phrase that is written, the doctors are asking for help, but also it can be interpreted by the following way: the doctors are the ones that took care of H and the message doesn't apply to only the doctors but the persons who knew H and can be hurt by the loss of her.

Now a quote is selected. This quote is very important, because it talks about memory, the memory that H left and also the pain that her death caused. Which is related to the previous image. Who takes care of the people who miss her?

Arte collage.png

For this work we had to take several photographs of a general topic. In my case the topic was the violence in Colombia, but specially the leaders of belligerent groups, that affected the country the most. The photos  follow the following pattern; each photo was taken when the person was active or leading a certain group, also they are in their "usual" workspace and clothes at the time. Now the posture that was assumed was condemning the actitudes by these leaders, so a totally against posture. Making these images really dark, in black and white, taking away all the power that may be reflected, and making the persons look more irreal, while preserving the face and gestures.

BODY

In this example I am used as a sculpture, laying down in an uncomfortable position between two chairs and with a phone in my ear. This position places me in total disconfort as the chairs are hard and the position is really weird for my body, causing some pain as I had to stay there for at least one minute. I was unsure by including my self in the art piece as it is new for me to do that and makes me a little bit uncomfortable although no one will watch the video. But this was a constant thought in my head, but as I progressed that feeling and fear faded away and I found a more calming aspect. The discomfort doesn't come only by the chairs and position, but because as said above this is something I am not used to and that takes me out of my confort zone, making the beginning of the experience not enjoyable.

In the other hand this may be presented as an art piece, because it can have several interpretations, although it doesn't treat a very specific and complex concept, people can take conclusions and interpretations out of it, which is indeed what art does.
